A fine George III bracket clock by Robert Philp in a three pad top case veneered with figured mahogany.  Standing on moulded brass feet, the case is surmounted by a single carrying handle and includes brass side frets.  The break arch brass dial is mounted with enamel discs for the chapters and a seconds disc in the arch for strike/silent.  The high quality movement has a verge escapement, hour strike sounded on a bell and finely engraved backplate.

Robert Philp is recorded as working in London during the second half of the 18th century.  He was responsible for several musical and complex astronomical clocks.  An example of his work is illustrated in English Domestic Clocks by Cescinsky & Webster.
