Rare pair of George III period Paktong candlesticks with domed and gadrooned square bases, stop-fluted columns, plain capitals and gadrooned nozzles. Circa 1770 Paktong, sometimes known as Tutenag, was an imported Chinese alloy of nickel, copper and zinc which, due to its slow-tarnishing nature and silver-like appearance was used for various items of domestic metalwares more usually made of brass or polished steel.
