Mahogany brass-bound writing box bearing the label “Bought from William Dobson” and bearing his trade label under both lids. With a baized writing slope, each half lifting up to reveal compartments underneath. Original gilded brass candle sconces. Fitted and compartments for an ink bottle, nibs and pens etc, one with a secret sprung drawer. One long drawer in the base; the lid can be supported on a ratchet with the original detachable reading bar.
William Dobson is recorded at 166 Strand, London, from 1805 to 1825. The original lock, stamped ‘GR’ , indicates the reign of George IV, 1820 to 1830.
