Fine William & Mary period walnut and marquetry long-case clock

Fine William & Mary period walnut and marquetry long-case clock by John Shaw, Holborne*; the eight-day striking movement fitted with a 10 1/2" square brass and silvered dial with a seconds dial, a calendar aperture, pierced hands and finely-cast winged cherub's head spandrels; signed on the chapter-ring. The well-coloured case with panelled and banded sides and the trunk-door and base with marquetry panels of vases-of-flowers, foliage, birds and scrollwork.  The turned columns of the hood with gilded bases and capitals, and the flat-topped moulded hood with a (probably later) shallow surmount with holes for three finials.  The trunk-door has an oval lenticle in a gilded frame.

*John Shaw of Holborn(e) apprenticed in 1672 and a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1682, of which he was Master 1712 - 15.  This clock dates from the last years of the seventeenth century.
