An exceptionally fine William & Mary period Chest-on-Stand

An exceptionally fine William & Mary period Chest-on-Stand decorated on each show-surface with variously shaped panels of intricately detailed arabesque seaweed marquetry, within leaf-trail and spear-head borders, all on a ground of geometrically arranged princes wood oyster-pieces.  The two short and three long drawers have fine wainscot oak linings, original engraved brass escutcheons and replaced drop-handles.  The stand has five turned baluster legs united by shaped stretchers which are also decorated with marquetry panels.  The bun feet have been replaced.

It has been suggested that the quality of this chest may link it to the work of Thomas Pistor (died circa 1711) of The Cabinet, Ludgate Hill, London and Member of the Joiners' Company.  Circa 1690
