Fine and unusual George III period mahogany 'medallion-back' hall-chair, attributable to Gillows of Lancaster circa 1790; the oval spoked back with finely-carved detail and an inlaid satinwood central panel; the panelled seat on ring-turned legs united by a cross-stretcher. This chair exactly follows a design in Gillows' 'Estimate Sketch Book' of the 1790s.
