Exceptionally fine mid nineteenth century burr wood and marquetry centre-table of the character and quality of furniture supplied by Edward Holmes Baldock (1777-1845); the circular top with a finely cast and chased ormolu edge, surrounding a broad double cross-banded border possibly of burr elm enclosing a finely executed panel of a floral spray in various tinted timbers on an ebony ground, surrounded by a band of trompe l’oeil Jacobean style strapwork, further decorated with floral garlands. The tripod base composed of compound curves with incurved scrolled feet, veneered all-over with burr timber and edged with ormolu mouldings. The underside of the base is similarly curvilinear and incorporates sunk castors. Circa 1840
